Thai Ridgeback
An athletic Thai dog with a ridge of hair along its back, the Thai Ridgeback is independent, loyal and perfectly suited to heat.
History and origins
The Thai Ridgeback is an ancient breed from eastern Thailand, where it guarded homes, hunted and accompanied carts. Long isolated, it has stayed close to a primitive type.
Like the Rhodesian Ridgeback, it has a ridge of hair growing in the opposite direction along its back.
Temperament
Independent, watchful and very attached to its family, the Thai Ridgeback is wary of strangers and can be intolerant of other dogs.
Intelligent but stubborn, it needs an experienced owner, early socialisation and patient training.
Health
This is a hardy breed. Puppies should be checked for dermoid sinus (a skin malformation along the spine).
Regular veterinary follow-up is recommended.
